Eating Up Chinese New Year

Hey everyone!
This week brings the new year and with it all the food in the world.
Pear Apple Juice with Mint: This one was pretty darn good. A little
bit minty and fruity, very refreshing, very weird. 3 minty mixes out
of 5.

Fried Nian2gao1: This is a little gelatinous thingy that has red beans
in it and is very sweet which is then battered and fried. As all fried
things, it is delicious. 4 fried fritters out of 5.

Verbatim:
I pulverized it. --Elder Kasparian

Shuai! --little kid, pointing at me as he walked away.

Can i give you something!?! (me to man who is walking along)
Can we give you an X-box? (Elder Kang who is standing beside me) Huh,
he really doesn't want it. That means we can keep it! (still Elder
Kang)

Elder Kasparian (heretofore EK): (with fingers splayed like the letter) V
Man: two
EK: No, V
Man: Three...?
EK: (Now pointing to the man's letterman jacket which has a "v" on
it): No, V. What's your name?
Man: Zhou1
Me: Oh! "Z"!

While knocking:
Lady: Who are you looking for?
EK: People who are willing to listen to the gospel!
Lady: Oh! It's not very convenient right now!
Me (aside to EK): Oops, we must've knocked the wrong person.

Me(To kid at a different door): well can we come back another day?
Kid: Sure
EK: We're really going to come back, you'd better prepare yourself.*

This week was a fun one without too much crazy stuff happening. We did
have a really good meeting with a Shi1 family who are willing to meet
and keep preparing for baptism. We are really excited about them
because it's the first time that either of us have taught a whole
family in a long time (5 transfers for me and something like 6 for
Elder Kasparian). It will be a slower progression, but we have a lot
of hope for them. They live out on this one street way in the
boonies--so far that I could probably almost throw a rock to Danshui
from there. We love them.

I love you all!

Pics at Modern Toilet Restaurant

Still a Zone Lobster

Hey everyone!
This week was a good week loaded with all sorts of food:
Run4 Bing2: This is the real version of the eggroll. It's a chewy
tortillaish wrapper with vegetables, meat and all sorts of little
seasonings in it (the best is the peanut stuff). It feels much
healthier than an American style eggroll, tastes better and is
cheaper. I give it 4.5 taiwanese "is better"s out of 5.
Hamburger Gai4 Fan4: This was possibly one of the sickest things that
I have ever found. There's a place on a college campus that sells this
thing and I felt like I had to try it out the second I saw it. They
serve you a big bowl of rice with curry on it, vegetables and various
other things, but the best part is they put this big huge hamburger
patty with cheese on the top of it all. It's like a real American
hamburger, seasoned in the American way. The mix of the two (burger
and curry) is a little like burgers, noodles and gravy Taiwanese
style. It's amazing. 4.5 burger baby bump bellies out of 5.
Zui4 Ji1: This is literally translated as drunken chicken. It was
good. The flavor was nice and light with a touch of sourness from the
vinegar and a touch of sweet from the wine sauce it was cooked in.
Sadly, I'm too inebriated from eating it to even tell you what it
rates.

Verbatim:
Is it the itch you gotta scratch? The dump you gotta take? (both me)
The stone you gotta pass? (Elder Kasparian)--Regarding the need to see
the move call sheet.
Sounds like a great idea. I'm going to go talk to this lady. (In
english) "HEY LADY!"--Elder Kasparian

This week we had a lot of miracles. One night as I was praying and
accounting for the next days plans to Heavenly Father, the impression
came that we were supposed to go to She4zi3 not to Da4Zhi2. It was
really shocking to me because we had made hours of plans already, but
the next morning I kept praying and the feeling was the same. We ended
up doing it and were rewarded for following the prompting. In just a
few hours we were able to find so many new investigators it was
insane. One of them, and Chen dx came to church with us and is looking
really good. Another instance where I was prompted to say something
was while we were in a rush to drop something off and I saw a kid
smoking on a bench. The thought came to talk to him and I went a
little bit without doing it then turned around and talked to him. I
asked if he wanted to stop smoking. He said yes but he had no clue how
to do it. I told him the gospel would help. He eagerly set up a time
to meet with us. It was so cool because I don't really ask people
about their smoking or anything. I know that the Holy Ghost is with
everyone who has been baptized and confirmed. All you have to do is
listen for him.

Elections move in! We move out! Next week....maybe?

Hey everyone!
We had a fun P-day last week and went to this place called the "Modern Toilet" for lunch. The place was crazy. The seats were all commodes and the tables were glass plates set over bathtubs. The whole place was all decked out like a bathroom and even had little toilet paper roller things for the napkins and all. It was hilarious. I was laughing so hard the whole time. When they serve your food, they bring it out in a little toilet shaped serving thing. It was hilarious. I forgot to bring my camera this week, so I will have to send the pictures next week.
Food: Green Curry: I don't know if I have reviewed this before, but this is the best food on the planet. I got this at a Thai place that is nearby and it was amazing! It's really fragrant and rich in flavor. They also made it so spicy that I thought that my hair would light on fire. It was brutal. I will eat it time and time again. 5 cruel curries out of 5.

Verbatim:
I hope they're ashamed of what they've done.---Me, regarding the awful flatulence of one of the passengers on the massively overcrowded Metro. Seriously, we couldn't have been packed tighter as sardines in a can and the stench was overwhelming.
I think they're preparing to wage war on the vampires!--Me on seeing a massive wooden stake lying in the middle of an apartment complex
I gotta get rid of the cocaine!--Elder Kasparian on the berry nut mix.
Don't stop the cocaine until I stop breathing--Me
What a terrible guy!--Elder Kasparian on a guy who seemed like he was going to run the light. He didn't.

This week was just pretty average, not too much special happened. I was happy to go back to my promised land of Danshui for the 11th exchange this month. yeah. It takes a toll after a while. Actually, not really. I just hope that I don't ever turn into the traveling assistant, because that would be every day of my life.
We set up with a Zheng dx who we were waiting for at the church. We were waiting outside just like we are supposed to, and I was contacting people walking by the church. I ended up talking to a Chen dx who was contacted the day before in Danshui. We talked for a little bit and found out that he has a huge interest in our church and that's why he came out for a walk--to come and find out if our church really was here. We took him inside and taught him. He had so many questions and just feels like he really is thirsting for the gospel. He expressed many times how he is hoping that he can understand the gospel and find answers. It was even to the point where he looked at the track and was looking at the questions of the soul and told us, "It says in here that there's this book, the Book of Mormon, I think that would answer a lot of my questions." It was pretty much amazing.

I swear there's more funny stuff to be written, but I can't remember it right now.
Hope to hear from all of you!

Happy New Years!

Hey everyone!
This week brought the new year and awesome new investigators! More on that in a little bit.

Food:Beef and Chicken Tacos: We got invited over to a member's house this week and they made some amazing Mexican food for us. They have lived in the states and told us they figured that we would probably really enjoy the stuff. I know that it's not really a new food for me, but it was still really good. 5 Marvelous Mexicanos out of 5.
Honey Tea: I was in Danshui this weekend and ChuanRen insisted on getting me some warm honey tea to drink. It was really good. The honey here a lot more fragrant, a little more like a flower tea, so it was super refreshing, 4 hankerings for honey out of 5.

Verbatim: Peas are small and green! --Elder Kasparian on Peas and Green (mung) beans
Jie4 wo3 ni3 de bi3zi3 (Let me borrow your nose!) --ChuanRen regarding what I could do to clean off my bike tool

I forgot to tell you all about a guy that I contacted last week. I talked to him and asked if we could share with him sometime and he was like, how about right now? I said sure and we went to his house with him right then. I was thinking to myself that this was the best miracle I had ever seen. It was certainly the first time that I had ever had someone that I contacted on the street drive a couple blocks to his house and let us in. We went up and he told us that we could chat in his room. We went in there and it was the most insane collection of "airsoft" guns that I have ever seen. All the walls were mounted with racks and there were over two hundred guns. However, as i started looking a little closer, I realized that a good number of them were real guns. I was freaked out. He then pulled out what I would call an "anarchist cookbook" and told us how you could probably get arrested for having this book and showed us how it teaches you to make everything from pipe bombs to mustard gas. At this point I am panicking and thinking "I just contacted Crazyville!" I'm trying to go when he picks up one of the guns and shows us how it's bolt action and real and all and I pretty much just told him we had to go and ran out of there. It was pretty much one of the more intense moments in my mission.

This week I saw an amazing miracle out of this world. I was walking along and I saw an older lady pushing her grandson in his stroller. I had this subtle impression to talk to her. I offered a family message. She stopped immediately and accepted it. I talked to her for a moment and asked if we could come back later. For some reason I felt like I should ask her if we could come back that same day. She said that after five o-clock she would gladly have us over. I told her that would be awesome and we set up the time. We went over and she was amazing. She told us how she had seen missionaries forever and always thought that we were great but had never had a chance to talk to us. She told us yesterday that she thinks that it's a miracle that we came into her life because she thinks that it's definitely because God wants her and her family to learn something important right now. It was the greatest feeling to have that miracle in my life because I realized once again how God can prepare anyone for the gospel. It is just too good to be true, but it is true.

I think that's about all from me folks! I hope that as you make your resolutions this year, you resolve to write me more!
Love,
Elder Siebert
